Restoring Grove House: A Georgian Treasure Saved from Ruin
Restoring Grove House: A Georgian Treasure Saved from Ruin
Lucy and Seb have taken on the incredible task of restoring Grove House in Barrow upon Humber, near Hull — saving this beautiful Grade II listed Georgian property from total ruin caused by severe water damage and decay.
The house was stripped back to its original brickwork and timber, as years of water ingress had destroyed much of the plasterwork. We’ve been privileged to help them reinstate key features of the home, including traditional plaster cornices (coving), elegant arches, and intricate corner details, restoring them to how they would have originally appeared.
In keeping with the property’s Georgian heritage, we’ve carried out traditional three-coat lime plastering, preserving the building’s historic character and using materials authentic to the period.
Lucy and Seb are documenting their renovation journey on Instagram and Facebook — be sure to follow them for updates as they breathe new life into this remarkable home. Their project has also been featured on Channel 4’s “Renovation Nation” — Series 1 and 2, celebrating the dedication and craftsmanship going into restoring this historic property.
Take a look at some of the before-and-after progress photos below — and keep an eye out, as there’s still plenty of work ahead to bring Grove House back to its former glory.
